Hi, does anybody know if the 41s can be upgraded to the 230hp or 260hp with different turbos/injector nozzles/calibration I know there is no compressor but they cut out at 2500rpm approx and the turbo takes over. Any help would be good. I have a feeling I have read someone doing this on a squeaker. Thanks

You need to talk to Col. He has built a couple of monster engines based on the Kad42 engine which he has put in his Sunsqueeker Martinique 38. They are putting out around 300hp each. He is the most knowledgable chap I have met on these engines and i`m sure he could help you. Just for the record he has got my Kad 43s putting out around 250hp just by a little "turning up the whick". I`m sure 230hp from a 41 would be no problem for him. I`m sure he`l be along in a min to comment.

I discussed this a while ago with Van Aaken at the Transport Research Lab at Crowthorne, and they said they could, and it was an area they were looking to venture into. They referred to the process as "optimisation" This is how they beefed up pre electronic turbodiesels. They were keen to experiment with my engines, but given the cost of the injector pumps etc etc I declined until they had more experience.

They were an amazing outfit, and appeared to be able to turn their hands to extracting more power out of pretty much any engine, but sadly ceased trading last year. Another good company thats gone to the wall - Sad stuff.

I'd be interested to hear what Col has to say.

It's not really as straightforward on the AD41's as it is on KADS.
Firstly, to get more power you need more air and fuel. The fuels not a problem as you can set the pump for more fuel!

The problem is the 41's really start pulling at around 2700rpm when the turbos really get on the boost. You can generate much more power here with turbo and fuel mods but you're still going to hit the 3900 rev limit so it wont go any faster (which is what I assume you are after?)

OK. You could fit coarser pitch props, but then you will find that you struggle to get "over the hump" as you've effectivly moved the RPM down a bit so turbos aren't on boost at hump speed. You could fit a 2 speed tranny such as Stepdrive but that's going to cost!

With the Kads they are on boost from 1400 rpm, so the power will start a lot sooner and you don't have the problem of getting over the hump (ask Davedpc on here, he's been on my boat and fully laden with 4-5 adults. it leaps onto the plane)

But in answer to your question, there is an uprated turbo available for the 41's.
But I would opt for something a little better. I use a hybrid turbo( K27 impellor /K26 exhaust tubine) with modified housing. I then get the pumps "re-mapped" to provde the extra fuel- The only problem is you're likely to have more smoke untill the turbos spool.

If you want to go down this route PM me again for more in depth answer.
