Engine fine at the end of last season. First run out today after launch and at idle the alarm started going beep every 10 secs or so. No alarm when above idle. Water flow out of the exhaust OK. No warning lights lit. Only other symptom was that the LCD hours meter was flashing.

Plenty of oil and the engine doesnt use any. Plenty of coolant.

Any ideas?

I don't think the starter panel is terribly weather and marine proof and it might be a connection problem. Although recessed, my starter/key unit had to be replaced after a few years.

I would suspect voltage flickering around the low limit. I'm fairly sure on the current (no pun!) VP alarm module the buzzer goes for low voltage, it didn't on the earlier type. Did the idle speed seem a bit down, or has the battery been sat around and maybe was taking a lot of charge?

If anything troubadour, the voltage would be too high since I have one of those digi regulator thingies. Idle speed was 900.

I'll check because I managed to damage a wire doing a job over the winter so I may have a bad connection.
