The water pump on my 2020b needs replacing.. This is NOT the raw water pump. It is the one driven by the belt. that circulates the coolant. Keypart have quoted £426 exchange.. Being as this is a Perkins engine, does anyone know whether i can use a perkins part ( cheaper hopefully ), part number? where to buy from? or any better ideas..

The pump drips once the system is under pressure. Would a can of radweld do any harm? ( Sit back and wait for Flack )

Thanks Alan

Unfortunately the dynamic seal on most modern engine circulation pumps is ceramic and is built into the pump. When it fails the whole pump needs to be replaced. I doubt that Radweld can do anything for it.

When I had the timing belt replaced on the Fiat engine in my motorhome I was advised to change the water pump as well, which on that engine is built into a large plate on the front of the engine, also including the tensioner pulley. Cost me over £1000 in all.

Since it's so expensive, find an engineering workshop, and get the pulley or the centrifugal impeller pulled off the shaft. Then find a way to renew the bearing and seal, I refuse to believe it can't be done. Sometimes you have to fight built-in obsolecence.
And I admit I never run my MD2010 with a tight belt, in the hope of delaying the very same issue, fecking volvo prices...
Please let us know how you get on,cheers Jerry

I have a pump for Perkins Perama M20 , not new but is still fitted to an engine that was running I think this engine is the same for many parts as Volvo MD2020 .PM me if you want details.

Welland Power are who you need. The engine is a Japenese (spelling??) base engine used for light industrial use. Welland sell the parts but they appear to be sent out of a warehouse in Trafford Park, Manchester. Next day delivery. The bloke who answers the phone in the Welland parts dept is very helpful. You need the engine model number and the engine serial number and if you can get a number off the pump then all the better. Don't think you will find a more competitive price for a proper OEM part. I have a Perkins Perama M20 which is the identical base engine to the Volvo 2020. let us know how you go on.

the engine may be shibaura based, I googled shibaura engines and got lots of tractor links, also used in mini-diggers.Sorry to hear about the cost of this item as I have one too!
Let forum know how you get on?

It is Shibaura-based. Perkins originally imported Shibaura engines, then went into partnership with Shibaura to assemble the engines in the UK.

Hi Alan
Yes, I had the same problem with my 2020b pump about 3 years ago.
I discovered a engineering company Holman Engineering Co Ltd, based in Addlestone, Surrey.
They charged me £150 to replace the shaft and seals in the original pump.
Touch wood, it's still going strong. Email: precision@holman-engineering.co.uk.
Hope this is of help.
Regards Alan
