My 2003 has developed a problem in that when going from quite high revs (2000) to tickover, the engine cuts out. Particularly a problem when manouvering ( forward a bit - back a bit - full stop reverse! ). Anyone experienced the same and found a cure?

Had the same problem. Very disturbing: drive in my birth, throtle down, and the engine would die. Difficult to brake, with no engine.

In the end, it turned out to be the fuel filter, which wasn't screwed on tight enough. So a little bit of air was coming through. Problem was: the fuel filter is on the push side of the manual pump. So every time I primed the engine, I would get a clear (no bubbles) flow of fuel. But when I started it, the engine simply drew air though the fuel filter slit, sucking the filter dry.

So don't believe the manual: tighten those filters (but not to tightly, of course, or you'll strip the thread). Tip: put some oil on the rubber seal of the filter.
