On my VP 2003, looking at the front of the engine, just above and to the right of the alternator there is something that looks like a capacitor screwed into the block. From this there is a red wire which at some point in the past has been cut. It hangs there doing nothing, yet everything seems to work OK. Where should it connect?
Thanks, Pete.

Are you able to identify it on this diagram on page 45?
At a guess it could be the fuse (item 8) but if it's not connected then it must have been replaced with something else.
From the figure there is also the oil pressure switch 16 and other bits in the area.

Pete, sounds as if it could have been a supresser for interference from the alternator, but I could be wrong, they are normally attached on the alternator casing.

I don't know what the function of no 19 is - according to the wiring diagrams, page 11 and 12 the rev counter gets its signal from the alternator.
I don't recognise the part though I seem to spen an unhealthy amount of time staring at the beast.
