Volvo 2003 Manifold Leak

My Volvo 2003,raw water cooled, seeps exhaust water from joint at base of manifold riser. I have replaced gasket and noticed a groove from corrosion on the underside surface of the riser. Tried rubbing down with emery cloth on flat surace but still leaks very slightly..
Thought of using some kind of epoxy filler and then re-facing again but heard epoxy goes soft with heat. In fact it doesn't seem to get that hot - can touch it without pain.
Any ideas?

remember years ago in africa, had a vw passat that had enormous scores in the bores, we used to use a product for sealing and gluing production tubing in oil wells, i cant remember the name of it but there is a similar product called belzona, any way i cleaned the bores with thinners and filled the with this two pack. then i used a honer and put it all back together, lo and behold it worked. the point is that modern 2 pack epoxies can and will work in heat sensitive areas and i would bet that you could use some in this area.

The proper gasket for the exhaust bend is metal-reinforced and quite thick. It should compensate for some roughness in the mating faces if the bend is correctly torqued down. However the use of a gasket sealant such as Hermatite will help fill the gaps. We have used this product on this gasket on our 2002 and have had no problem - however the mating faces on our engine are stll in good order.

Had a similar problem with a 2001 from corrosion of the elbow. There are holes in the elbow which did not have corresponding holes on the head and these were widened by corrosion. I used a VP gasket and Loctite gasket elimintor (up to 200C).
