Recent behaviour of engine has been perplexing; it is fresh water cooled and has a calorifier. First of all we lost water from the expansion bottle - no sign anywhere of "lost" water; topped up and all appeared stable until once again alarm sounds and this time water coming out of xb. Topped up and all appeared stable. No further alarms...but overnight xb empty and topped up. This happened at least once more and then the level in the xb started to fluctuate - generally rising and some had to be siphoned off. I should say that on first instance no salt contamination noticed nor antifreeze in drinking water nor water in sump...we now have unmistakeably salty water in xb. Unfortunately the HX, I am told, does not have a replaceable stack whereas the 2003T does...so wife is being sent back to work...or is there any other possible cause of engine misbehaviour? I know of at least one other skipper who has recently had to replace his hx on same engine...are there (m)any more out there? I should say that the above took place over best part of 2 months and not on consecutive days...
