hi all i have just completed service on my volvo 2002. like a divi ?, i conected a hose pipe to the inlet pipe and on cranking the engine over ,only twice, water came out of the air filter. I realised OOPS and stoped. I then removed all pipe work and drained the engine . then i reconected using a bucket in the normal manor and started the engine , eventually the engine started an ran ok. The question is have i caused any damange and are there any steps i may be able to take to prevent any damage or is it to late?. Thanks in anticipation Ian

Did you change the oil? I guess water would find its way past the piston rings or through the breather and into the sump. There is a drain plug for the cooling system on the left side (as you look at the fly wheel), so you don't need to disconnect all of the hoses to drain it.

Change the oil and filter, taking good care to get as much water out of the bottom of the sump. I assume like me you can't get at the drain plug, so use the usual suction pipe technique, but have a good hoover around the bottom of the sump.

You need to give it a good run, getting it well up to operating temperature for 20 mins or so to drive away any remaining moisture and ensure everything is well coated with oil.

Change the oil again, run it up until warm again, then do your cooling system again (but not like your first attempt).
