Thought that the impellor unit had developed a leak. Closer inspection shows that it is the part that the impellor unit is bolted onto thats leaking (?). Can I take this apart and fix it myself? Is it likely to be a gasket that needs replacing.
Any tips/hints/suggestions gratefully received.

If I remember correctly from my last boat fitted with a 2002 (have you had your drive hexed?) there is a little slit behind to water pump housing which is intended to allow water to escape should the pump bearing seals start to leak. If the slit was not there, the water would escape into the sump causing all sorts of problems. The bearing seals are fairly easy to change I seem to remember. I think a kit is available.

Yes, there is a kit. I have done this job on my 2001 and it was OK.

Bigart below mentions the tell tale hole which shows that the oil/water seals are worn. A kit is available from Keypart/Volvo etc. Remember that the seals go back to back ie not facing the same way. Some diagrams show a thin O ring. This is not now used. Its a simple job but remember to grease the seals as you put them in or you will turn them inside out. Also grease the tip of the shaft as you press it into the seals
