Volvo 2002 water leak – help please.

Thought that the impellor unit had developed a leak. Closer inspection shows that it is the part that the impellor unit is bolted onto thats leaking (?). Can I take this apart and fix it myself? Is it likely to be a gasket that needs replacing.
Any tips/hints/suggestions gratefully received.

I think the most likely place for it to be leaking from is the back of the water pump. From memory, behind the impellor there's a water seal then a gap with a rubber drip ring to keep any water off the oil seal which is last. The seals do go, and it's qiuite important to replace them as I understand the leak could cause crevice corrosion of the stainless pump shaft, which costs an arm and a leg.
