Volvo 2002 Gearbox - Worn Shaft

I've just removed the MS2 gearbox off my Volvo 2002 to check driveshaft wear which is common on these engines.

The teeth look pretty worn to me so it looks like I might need to get one of the shaft modification kits.

Does anyone think I'm wasting my money or even better, selling an existing kit no longer in use?

It looks more than "pretty worn" to me, only just short of totally knackered. It
certainly needs one of the modification kits.

In my unprofessional opinion, you might get away with it for another season, but Vic's right: only just short of being knackered and can you heart take the strain of wondering if the next time you put in in gear is the last....

I've just fitted the D&B mod. Well engineered, good service and not too difficult to fit. Certainly does the job and worth it for the peace of mind.

It doesn't look as bad as mine was but while you have it out, get it done and stop worrying about it.

I went for the DB option too - good service, very helpful.

Not a waste of money if your engine is otherwise working well. This is described as a lifetime fix.

I wanted people to confirm that it was knackered so that I didn't feel guilty about shelling out the dosh.

I also was hoping that someone might have a second hand kit they wanted to sell.

Another Vote for the D & B Modification.. Not too difficult to install.. Good service & very helpful..
