l have been trying to remove the conical shaped fuel pump cover in order to clean the strainer without success. The pump cover appears to differ slightly from the arrangement shown in the service manual, in that the cover is completly recessed in the body of the pump and has no lip around the edge. Any advice on removing the cover without damaging it would be gratefully recieved. Also is it possible that the pump is a replacement part which does not quite match the existing.

Many thanks

This usually works...

Remove the centre bolt and washer. Get a smilarly-sized bolt, just insert it about 1-2mm into the hole in the cover, then gently lever it sideways. The cover should pop out of its flush-fitting. There should be a gasket under it and then the plastic filter. Don't use the original centre bolt to lever the cover in case you damage the threads.

does it have a bolt in the centre if so the cover can be removed

if not its sealed without a strainer this was fitted to later engine and has different fuelpipes
