Does anyone have, or know anyone that has, a special tool required to remove the camshaft pin from a Volvo 2002?

It's called a ‘884839-2 – Assembly & Disassembly tool for the camshaft pin’. Click the link below to see the image from the workshop manual:

I have to remove the pin before I can remove a damaged timing gear casing.

If someone would be willing to loan or rent me the tool, I'd be very grateful.

Would not a fine punch just a little smaller than the pin work? Or a length of twist drill shank?

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried to gently tap it and the end of the pin started to spread. The workshop manual also states that you should not attempt to hammer out the pin as it can damage the camshaft.

The alloy housing around the camshaft area where the pin is located makes it very difficult to use any type of gadget that can apply pressure on the end of the pin. The special tool is that ridiculous shape for a good reason!

I've just ordered a new tool from Keypart at £242. It will cost me more to pay for the boat being on the hard while I'm messing about.

Ouch......

I thought the camshaft pin was only needed if you used the hand start. Which requires the handle. And room to swing it.

Can't it be dremel'd off and ignored if you are not intending to hand start?
