Volvo 135/SX outdrive noise -Volvo expert required

Hi all,

Hope somebody can help solve a mysterious noise coming from my out-drive.

The noise only occurs at 2000 rpm, and sounds like gear whine or a vibration.

Has anyone else experienced this problem.

The VP dealer has checked the engine alignment and gimball bearing under warranty, but could not find fault with either.

The noise also occurs in neutral at the same revs

The engine/outdrive is a 2009 model and has run for ten hours .

I think I would get them to check it again, I would get the supplier/manufacturer of the boat involved, if they both still maintain there is no issue, get that in writing and make sure you keep your end of the warranty in terms of service etc

Does the noise vary if you swing the steering on to full lock, if so then its either the gimbal bearing or the input shaft bearing in the drive, as there is a side load on the bearings on full lock.
