WANTED VOLUNTEERS - For Emergency Exercise At Sea


Thursday 25th November 2004

As part of Wightlink’s and the Emergency Services commitment to Safety of Life at Sea, we would like up to 250 volunteers to take part in an Emergency Exercise on the Solent.

Between 09.30 am until 14.30 pm, day will consist of various emergency procedures including a ship evacuation.

Anyone between 16 and 70 years old are welcome to us, but please note you must be physically capable of participating in a ship-to-ship transfer.

A sandwich lunch will be provided on the day.

Not at all. Experience (I worked on fire research for over 20 years) shows that good systems don't get wrecked by someone who does something not in the rules. If one "troublemaker" can wreck the system, then the system needs changing.

I just can't think of any bunch of people better qualified to be "troublemakers"!

I will be based at a Gosport marina next season so my Wightlink emergency training is underway at a local swimming pool.

Obviously people in wheelchairs never use the IOW ferries! Or 5 year-olds even! Can't say this will prove anything - in the high season they are packed with babies, young kids and grandparents of dodgy mobility.
