My father has a rather aged Vivacity 24, over the last few years he has noticed that the shrouds are becoming more dificult to tension, this is due to the coachroof sagging. I understand that this is a common problem, any ideas ona solution?

Thanks in advance

I don't know the boat but presumaably it has a deck (coachroof) mounted mast. Packing under the mast support structure if it has a post would solve the problem of sagging roof. If that is not practical then packing under the mast will shorten the stays and permit tensioning however.... and I have been criticised (disagreed with) in the the past but I don't go along with the 15% of rated max load for the wire as the required standing tension. This just may have been the cause of the coachroof sagging or maybe he is trying for too much tension.
I realise that loads when sailing are much greater than the 15% but it is only for a short time compared with large loads all the the time. Of course that may not be the problem at all regards will

Thanks Will

I think that the best solution is to put a support pole under the the mast on the inside of the boat, I have seen many other boats with this fitted as standard.

Beware if you have sandwich decks. It may be that water ingress is causing the sandwich to compress. If you install a King post, I would think about making sure you have "solid" contact with the base of the mast.
