Hi All,

Would like to overnight on the IOW down the Medina somewhere preferably somewhere that doesn't dry out but would like access to showers etc. for the morning.

Don't want to be on my anchor and would prefer not to be on a bouy as have my young daughter with me.

Can anyone suggest somewhere that probably wont be too busy but meets my criteria above? My boat is only 17.5 feet long so would prefer not to have anyone rafting on to me etc.

Thank you in advance.

The pontoons in the river off the Folly Inn will be ideal, berth on the inside away from the channel and chances of anyone rafting on you are far less unless at weekend. 24 hours showers at the Folly Inn. Taxi ashore or use your dinghy
Other choices are Shepherds Wharf right in the town where you will probably be rafted, or one of the Marinas

Yes agree Island Harbour would be good - was there last week - huge investment in the infrastucture going on. There is a lock to go through but if you give them a call they will tell you when free flow is so you do not have to bother. It has bar/restaurant, showers etc and chandlery which also sells basic provisions. It is rural though and a 45 min walk along the bank to Newport or 15 min walk to the Folly but you can catch the bus to Cowes or Newport from the main road.

You will definitely get a berth there.

East Cowes Marina. Smart shower block. No need for a dingy to get ashore. Short walk into Cowes. Unlikely that anything will raft up beside you. Bit bizzy this week.

raft up - several boats tie up next to each other. This is a regular occurrence in visitor locations as it saves both space (no extra fingers) and money (no extra fingers!!) for the operator. It can be a friendly way to spend an evening and make new friends...

oh right (sorry, just looking at buying first boat so new to all this) so if they tie up to you, what do you do if your in the middle and want to leave? Also, how do they get to the pontoon? walk across your boat?

Yep, they walk across your boat (and you walk across theirs). It's considered rude to cross over their stern/cockpit, as it's sort of akin to walking across someone's patio at home...

As for getting out of the middle, that's half the fun!
