Visitors berth in Marseilles

Hello from Marseille! We're currently moored up on a "visitor"'s berth at the Soicety Nautique Marseille, which is the one recommended by Heikell. They charge by area, so length x beam.

The rates are on this page:
http://www.lanautique.com/accueil-passager-societe-nautique-marseille.asp

As of 2014, it was €0.93 per sq metre for September (high season). The charges don't seem to have changed, as what we're paying a night fits in with the high season rate.

There are a few different clubs that you can visit, but I'd imagine they'll all be similar.

As an addition, this is in the Vieux Port. There's like a gazillion marinas around Marseille, though the clubs in the Vieux Port are the most central to Marseille. The other marinas are on the outskirts, or one is on an island that provides a regular ferry to the Vieux Port!

Note that Marseiles VP is city centre and a teensy bit crimey. Stuff from my boat slightly pilfered whilst we were there, not a massive robbery but meh... so unless i were to stay on the boat or have some on the boat all the time, I'd be wary - leave nothing outside and lock the boat every time. Otherwise all very fab, of course.

Thanks Cardo,

Yes I was think the Vieux Port.

Is this the same place? http://www.cntl-marseille.com/activites-services/tarifs-escales/ seems a similar rate

How much in advance do you need to book, or is there a fair amount of space?

CNTL are one of the other clubs, they're right at the entrance to the port. Bit more exposed to the numerous ferries arriving at speed, before having to slow down as they pass the police base.

SNM, where we are, is about half way in, and is a nice place. Calm and good facilities. We didn't book, just turned up and asked for a berth (for 3 nights, though staying an extra one). At the moment, considering it's mid'ish August, there's tons of space about. And if one club can't accommodate you, it's likely one of the others will be able to.

Whilst in no way would I say this doesn't happen, we've not had any issues during the three days we've been here. The pontoon we're on has a large gate with a code lock, and unless you jump the barrier you have to pass in front of the guard house to get into the club grounds.

If you're thinking of just stopping over somewhere on your delivery trip to Spain then maybe pick somewhere else? Marseille has a reputation for being a crime ridden hell hole. Must be some truth in it?
One of the smaller, pretty towns just before Marseille would be my choice for a one nighter.

The clue was pick up crew. i.e. flying into Marseilles - plus its convenient for the hop across the Golfe De Lion

Marseille is quite a long taxi ride from the airport, so there may be other places similarly suitable (sorry don't know other marinas in that area, but I've done the taxi ride a few times).

No flights to Toulon.

Plus Marseille to roses is 120nm so easy overnight passage.

Toulon is an extra 40 miles which means another 4 hours + and makes weather windows harder to acheive
I,d stick with plan A .Marseille marinas are fine for a rest over few days .
I would not do night passage in a new ish boat to me - across to Spain .
Get up early and bite the fuel bullet arrive Spain before lunch - refuel press on to destination weather sea state permitting .speed also = safety

Here is another plan avoiding Marseille. Cut straight across the bay to Carry le rouet.Nice little marina good Capitainerie, fuel dock and pleasant little town. We stayed there last year because Guy needed to be near the airport and if you look on the map you will find it quite close.
If you do stop there eat at St Tropez restaurant great tuna steaks!

Looking forward to meeting you when you arrive in SC
