Title says it all really-have been to PS a few times by road, but am thinking of taking a pootle up the harbour sunday late pm/early evening for a little adventure....am I right in thinking there is a short stay pontoon outside the harbour itself? Will I be stung for a couple of hours, long enough for a drink and maybe a meal? Any local info gratefully received.

To my knowledge, there is a pontoon to wait on while the lock is being prepared. I don't think you could use it to moor for any length of time. Others here might know better.

If its busy and normally sundays are, they use the holding pontoon for boats waiting for the lock and the majority of the pontoon has the dreaded sunsail moored on it.

Hi - I see you are in Gosport so ought to be FOC visit for you anyway.

The waiting pontoon outside the lock is usually free on the 2/3 berths by the lock - all the rest as other say are taken up by the sunsail fleet.

There is another waiting pontoon inside the lock and indeed the berth(s) where the fuel bay is situiated is free normally in the summer for visitors - thats hard to stbd once throu the lock.

Certainly when it's quiet they allow you to stop on the outer pontoon for a couple of hours. I've done it a few times when I've just wanted to have lunch and then move on. Sunday evening maybe too busy to allow this. I should give the lock control a call to check: they always seem to be helpful.
