Hoping to be in Bristol in July/August and looking at marina berthing; Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated especially close to centre for a 26' x 9' motor boat (Colvic Northerner) ?
Are there any particular pilot type guides you would recommend ie Nicholsons?

Visitor berths at the Arnolfini. Electric tokens can be purchased, but I'm not sure if there is water there. It might be a little too central on a Friday / Saturday if late night noise is a problem for you. There is a good charlet produced by Bristol city council that shows all the visitor moorings. You will need to plan in advance to make sure you can get in and out as tidal heights can be a problem at certain times. They also won't swing the bridges at rush hour.
 
Thanks steveej, that's very helpful and I will look into Arnolfini; we can put up with a lot of weekend noise if we're near the centre.
 
Bristol City docks have a fair few pontoons and 'against the wall' around the docks from "in" to 10 min walk away. Bristol marina is friendly but are often full. Harbour Festival weekend is fun but very busy. It's a vibrant place ��

Definitely no water taps at Arnolfini pon toons. We used the tender to go down to the harbour masters building to collect water and use the showers. Showers were grim but plenty of hot water.

A little update to my post, we made it to Bristol and stayed on the Arnolfini moorings for 6 days, wasn't as noisy as I expected. The water point on the shore is a difficulty, particularly for anyone moored on the other side of the hammerhead and the pump out opposite the ss Great Britain didn't work, but a good experience.
We've carried on up through Sharpness, but the days are getting shorter and we soon need to backtrack about 110 locks up the K&A and onto the Thames and back to Ipswich.
The only negative of the trip is the CRT who are pathetic and stupid, what with licensing problems (caused by themselves) and the lack of facilities up the K&A ,never mind trying to find a mooring space with all the overstaying liveaboards; perhaps the only advice I'd offer is to bring a gang plank/scaffold board which would open up a few more moorings.
