Giving some thought to an intended delivery later in the Spring, which is likely to include a stop-off and transit down the coast of Ireland, before heading towards the Isles of Scilly.

It occurs that a visa might then be needed. Any thoughts?

With the price of the east coast marinas you'll definitely need Visa. Either that or Mastercard.

The travel section in the Telegraph today raises the associated problem of passport expiry dates. Apparently the EU allows you to travel so long as your passport covers the period of your stay, but if there is no deal you wil need to have six months remaining. Mine expires in December.

I think you will find that the ROI customs etc have much more pressing problems to deal with, like going to the pub etc, than worrying about your visas or red duster.
Stay at any marina and enjoy the nightlife like everybody else. Have a great trip.

Brexit or no Brexit, Ireland is subject to a separate overriding agreement called the "Common Travel Area" This includes the Channel islands which essentially means that no passports are required to travel between them.

In the early eighties I flew to Jersey and didn't possess a passport, however today I think that airlines require proof proof ID, but this has nothing to do with immigration or customs.
