There's a virus hoax running around which tells you to delete this file:-
<font color=red>jdbgmgr.exe</font color=red>
Do NOT delete it.

Perhaps even more prevalent at the moment is the BugBear virus which is causing havoc.....if you have a virus checker and havent updated the virus definition files recently you really should do so..... If you havent got a virus checker you're kiving dangerously!

no, its the Debugger Registrar for Java, and is used mostly by M$ Visual Java++ 1.1 developers, but the Java VM needs it to work.

And rather annoyingly you can't download the file from Microsoft if you've deleted it anymore.

Due to legal issues with Sun, Microsoft can't distribute the java virtual machine separately..

I recently "contracted" the bugbear virus, through an email supposedly from BT (it wasn't).

I do have Antivirus software but the virus disabled it. Brilliant. I was later able to download a fix from Norton. Free, very kind of them, but I could have done this without buying ANY anti virus software at all.

I wonder who writes these viruses and why? The only people who profit from them are the anti virus companies

??

Yes, its a pain. If you can find a J++ program with a setup kit on the internet then it should reinstall all the files you need.

otherwise you could try copying from another machine!!
(not a cast iron fix though)

BugBear info

The BugBear virus is currently causing people a lot of problems and misunderstanding and we thought it useful to post the following information which has been put together by Paul Lomax here at IPC

If you are infected with BugBear it will pick random emails from your Outlook inbox, and forward them to random email addresses it finds anywhere on your computer - including your address book and from web pages in your temporary internet files. It also 'spoofs' the from address so that it appears to be from a trusted person.

We have been made aware of a number of cases where people have received emails seemly from IPC in the form of our email newsletters. These are in fact copies or fragments of the newsletter forwarded by BugBear from the infected mailbox of a legitimate opted inrecipient, with a virus attachment added.

We wish to inform our readers that IPC's email newsletters NEVER include attachments. If you receive an email WITH AN ATTACHMENT that appears to be from us, please delete it.

We would also clarify that email newsletters from the ybw.com network of websites are opt-in only and all of them carry an unsubscribe link. If you suddenly start receiving fragments of one without subscribing it is likely due to the BugBear virus and you are advised to delete it if it carries an attachment.

Email addresses used for the purposes of registering and administering the forums are not used in any other capacity and are therefore not the source of any virus attack on your mailbox.

General precautions

It is possible that you can be infected with BugBear without actually opening email due to an old security bug in Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends you download a fix: <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-027.asp>click here for the link</A>

More information on BugBear can be found by clicking here

We recommend all readers use anti-virus software to prevent infection. Companies offering anti-virus solutions include:

Do you have access to another computer with same version of windows on it?
if so, try copying the file from there. If not send me a PM with your email address and i will email you a copy the file.
