vehicle identification number will tell type of trailer braked or unbraked date of manufacture and max load weight and weight of bare trailer.

Could you give us the context for your request please? Are you buying a new trailer? What sort of load capacity? There are different requirements for the load capacity categories.

Hi Rafiki, I was looking at buying a trailer from China as these appear to be a lot cheaper, In some cases they look the same as advertised from British makers but some say they cannot supply a Vin number, the weight that it needs to carry is 2,700KG looking at the trailers I will need the one that will carry 3,500KG.
Thanks for your reply

You cannot import a trailer from China legally unless it has a CE mark, in which case it will need to meet the relevant legislation for its size and be certified. The reason they cannot supply a number is because the trailer will not be certified, and therefore illegal.

Actually, a CE Mark is not appropriate now, as new trailers have to be Type Approved from Oct 2013 It is most unlikely that a my trailer sold via the internet will be properly approved. The supplier needs to hold the VIN number as proof of registration. By the way, you are looking at an O2 trailer. If in doubt, check the VCA website on www.dft.gov.uk/vca and this should have all the info you need.
