So, me and Goldfish need to book a honeymoon for next year.
We have decided, for various reasons, to have a Villa 1 week and then a 29-35ft boat for the following week or vice versa. Can be a hotel but prefer something quiet possibly with a pool.
Sailing does not need to be difficult, and no need for Skipper or whatnot.
Quite happy with a small independant.
Dont mind booking boat and villa separately.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

Jim

For a honeymoon I would go for the Dalmatian Islands in Croatia, rather than Greece. The Ionian and Aegean can get crowded with flotillas.

You will find Croatia quieter, (important for romance /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif). The food is better too. Less burnt meat without the normal overdose of salad that you get in the tavernas.

You will find it cheaper to charter. We had a bareboat charter for a week on a Bavaria 37 for £ 750 when we visited the London Boatshow on the first day.

To get out there fly Ryan Air to Ancona, east coast of Italy then for your wedding night take the ferry overnight across the Adriatic in an on-suite cabin for next to nothing to arrive in Spilt, Croatia early morning.

Spend the first week sailing, then "relax" in the second week.

Hello Jim,

I can book a boat for you (either yacht or mobo) as long as i'm in this business in Greece (i'm an owner, not an agent) and have a friend that rents villas with splendid sea view and pool @ Porto Heli (on the Peloponnese, just opposite Spetses island)

PM me if interested ;-)

Dimitris,
Athens, Greece.

Flotilla or Bareboat ?

Did you mean Flotilla?

It will make a big difference to your choice, everyone seems to have answered assuming you want bareboat ?

I did a 2 week Villa Flotilla thing with Nielson ( web page ) which my wife and I enjoyed and can thoroughly recommend them.

However I think you will find most of these holidays assume that the first week in the Villa ( actually a Hotel in our case ) is used as a training course.

I'm pretty sure that you could negotiate with them to use their watersport facilities each day instead of going out learning the ropes if you are already qualified.

Neilson are based in Nidri in the Ionian.

Because Callum was in ICU last year for so long, we got too know another family very well, as their son was in the bed next to Callum. We've kept in touch ever since, for them their sons illness hasn't kept them back and i got an e-mail telling me about the wonderful time they had on a sailing holiday recently.
Here is a snipet of the e-mail telling about the trip and some pics.
If you want further info, let me know and i can find out for you.

Do you remember this poorly boy from last year? Well here he is enjoying a fantastic holiday sailing in the Med! We yachted around the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos for two weeks, part of a flotilla which turned out to be very good fun. Highly recommend it. Had a great time on Paxos in the Ionian a while ago. Had a small villa overlooking the harbour and a little motorboat for pottering around the island (much more useful and fun than a car!).

You could then charter a boat from those nice Sunsail people who have a site in Vounaki. Or there are loads of cheaper charter options in the area, Pay your money take yer choice!

We were on Paxos a while ago. But the company we used still exists see http://www.planos.co.uk/ .

We stayed in Lakka which was really v nice!

They fly into Corfu, so I would think you'd have no problem setting up a charter for the second week from there independantly.

Needless to say I have no connecton with these guys just a nice company and a beautiful island.

I have to agree about Paxos, been there stayed in Logos and Lakka, small mobos available at both places. You can get around the island by bus as well. Would reccomend Sunville, you fly into Corfu, they taxi you to the port and put you on the ferry, our flight was late so we missed the ferry, Sunville chartered a 40ft boat to take us to Paxos! spot on.
