Viking 285 pilot

I guess you're looking at the one at Burton Waters? I was also pondering viewing her, and that was one of the things I wanted to look at. I suspect 'not easy' may well be the answer. The engines are also the Yanmar 6BYs... just google that, or look for posts on here by "latestarter" for some interesting reading....

I’ve got one. I had a stern gland changed a while ago and the prop shaft aligned. I thought it would be an enormous job but the engineer had it all done remarkably quickly (and cheaply.) I have the 4lha-stp engines which are 240hp rather than 260hp but I believe a lot simpler.

Don’t know but it’s up for sale. Came over here brand new and has never moved in the 3 years I’ve been down there. Such a shame.

I had a little nose at yours, looked really good and bigger than the 285 suggests :)

I know of three, mine, one in fleetwood and that one down South. I believe there is another one though somewhere.

That jersey is up for sale for mega money in my opinion. It looks like it is slowly sinking to me, had a list and was down at the bow.

Hi dan did you take your boat to Holyhead to have gland done

It is way over priced. We had a spot of wind the other day....55 knot sustained right up the harbour. The mooring lines are super thin so the bow line snapped. The stern was hitting the pontoon so I fendered it best I could and got the harbour boys. It’s a crying shame.

Sorry for the thread drift!

Yes total thread drift but changing the stern glands isn’t that big a job.

Have a look at the photos on the advert, it isn’t hard to find. They are totally misrepresenting the boat, I would hate someone to cough up and travel over for a viewing to be totally disappointed.

It don’t shine like that anymore! Could be brought back in short order but I understand your point.

What’s strange is that water sits on the side gangways....all the time. Then goes green etc.... Seems a bit of a design flaw.

Back on topic, let us know if you go and view and how you get on :encouragement:

Took a few pictures today of the jersey 36. You can see what I mean about water collecting on the gunwales. The water sits right over the fuel filler! That’s bad design.
