A mate of mine has decided to join me in throwing money into a floating bathtub for a hobby, and has his heart set on a flybridge boat. He wants a new boat, and keeps going on about a Viki 34?????? Sounds like a girl rather than a boat, thing is i trawled the most recent boatshows and dont remember it.

Does anybody own one or know anything about them? They cost about 150k, and i reckon for that a benetau antares 9.8 would be a much better bet. Comments please.....

hm, i don;t know the name at all. Mind you,a benteau is not much better really, esp for a bmw-cognoscenti designer-label slave like your good self. Tellim to get an open riva under 47 feet long else you won't speak to him/her on the subject ever again.

My visit to LBS was prompted by wanting to look at one of these. The design and interior may not be to everyones taste. The builder has in my opinion either gone to some effort to avoid the "me to" looks of all the other AWB available,or is not aware that it exists due to the boat being built on a beach in Turkey somewhere.Blue hull and appears very solidly put together with hefty Teak or some such rubbing band round the entire boat.
For owners of every other single make of boat this is a material which comes from a "tree" (Look it up on Google). This enables the less capable among us to park the boat without causing $$$$$$ of gel coat damage each time you come along side.
Available with planing and semi planing hull and single or twin engines.
IMHO you will either love or hate this boat.Access to fly was a bit of squeeze and salesman indicated that they had a demo boat available at a good price floating around somewhere .I liked it a lot but did hear that problems had occurred with the importer although this could be total tosh.
Ps Was a s/hand one listed on one of the brokerages.

Yep, like Oldgit I specifically wanted to look at these following a fairly good write up in MBM. They appear well built and are significantly cheaper than other boats of similar size/spec due, I believe, to the cheaper labour costs in Turkey. Thay have just launched an aft cabin flybridge version and although I only saw the pictures at the boatshow it looks nice and looks to be a good value package IMHO

Being a genuine paid up cheapskate I also had a look at a Galleon, umm not that struck on build.Fly screen on bridge had been fixed with only self tappers sans rubbers or washers to spread load.Cracks in perspex at most securing holes. However as always if the price was right,an hour or two with a new bit of plastic !!!.
Pss thinkt the new little S.........e looks quite nice. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Looked at the Vikki at LBS. Nice little boat with lots of real wood, but the layout was not quite what we wanted - purely subjective of course. Cockpit seemed a little small and flybridge layout not the best. However, I could see that for some people it would be excactly right. I think the aforementioned aft cabin version could be a very good boat with the right engines. We have ordered the Beneteau. Very nice boat for us. A bit MFI in the finish dep. but not bad for the price, and is very practical for our requirements. Nice laminate floor in the saloon, (has anyone seen a clean cream carpet in a boat used by children?), good size flybridge to spread the people around (especially no. 1 daughter when she's having a strop), large cockpit (neat moveable transom) and that little kitchen area that means you don't have teenage girls walking past you all the time as they wander in and out aimlessly. Just happened to suit us.

yep fraid so, largely owing to the fact that I can listen to cricket on the radio when doing extremely boring things like ironing and paperwork. Try that with a boat. Mind you a combination of the two together (TMS is on LW after all) is just about perfect.
