Thanks OF, great pics as always.
Seriously thinking about spending some time in Ireland this summer, neither of us have been there, it certainly looks stunning.

A great mix of stills and videos Noel, thanks for sharing.

Of course being a fan of 'froggies adventures 2011' I recognised most of the still shots. Nice bit of strategically place Onedin Line music to accompany the tall ships :).

I feel I've just had a holiday in Ireland!

Strangely enough the 3 men in a boat team of Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O Briain and Rory McGrath were on telly last night transiting the Ardnacrusha lock by the hydro electric power station. Apparently the deepest lock in Europe / the World?

Quite a feat of engineering.

Henry :)

Thanks guys and Henry for kind comments. Yes Ardnacrusha has the 2nd deepest lough, there is one in portugal that has a drop 2ft longer. Ardnacrusha was built between 1924-1929 and when 1st opened generated 100% of Irelands electricity at a cost then 20% of GDP. The first sod was turned only 4 weeks after the government won a vote on it. By 1939 it generated 83% of the national grid, but now accounts for only 1%.

If the Spirit of Ireland project ever gets to see light of day it could generate 100% of the grid demand based on 2020 projections at a cost of 5% of current GDP. The plan was to build 3 sites (ie pumped storage into vast loughs using west coast wind), and turn Ireland into a net energy exporter instead of 98% dependance on imported oil.

Ardnacrusha was built by Siemens which is the reason we have 220v here istead of 240v. 5000 local men worked on the project over 4 years and they built a railway to transport the materials.

Normally Youtube makes me love my mute button but this is different :)

Wonderful video, great picture quality - and accompanied by great music.

Thx!
