Have a six month old unit UK fitted. This developed fault which was paralleling all batteries. As boat now in Spain was told by Victron head office to send the unit to their agent in Barcelona. Did this and a faulty diode was diagnosed. The agent in Spain have fixed the unit now want payment for the repair, some 60 euros, even though under warranty. The agents claim they only do warranty work on units purchased in Spain!! They did not say this prior to sending the unit to them and now say if I want free warranty they will remove the diode they have replaced and then send the unit back to head office in Holland for them to repair!! Is this madness or what??? Any one have any similar experience with Victron products

I'd get back onto head office, tell them you did what they asked and have been shafted by their Spanish Office - we are in the EU now, and things should have at least pan european warranties.

It's a joke and Victron need to sort it out.

We had a very similar experience when in Portugal and found absolutely no way round it. Essentially they treat each country company as seperate, and you pay to ship to Holland and risk of whether it's fixable ornot. Very annoying.

We dealt with Enervolt in Lisbon to sort it out who were great.

Thats interesting as it is Enervolt Spain to whom we sent our unit and they who are demanding the money.

Did you still end up paying or did they/Victron concede??

Re: Victron Multi Compact Battery Charger/Inverter

We have a Victron Multi that developed a fault within the warranty period. Victron were excellent in dealing with it. They arranged courier pickup from home address for delivery to Holland and I received a brand new replacement unit within a week - I did not pay any carriage charges at all.

Admittedly this was all UK - obviously they do not seem as efficient across the EU. Perhaps try speaking to the company you purchased from because they are the first people to contact for warranty issues.

For what it's worth, I had a Raymarine tiller pilot, bought in France in July, die in in Portugal in October. Took it in to local chandlery, a Raymarine agent, who sent it to Lisbon for repair, which was done free under warranty (as it bloody well should). I'd much rather have had a device which didn't pack in after 3 months, but in this case the pan-European warranty cleared worked. I believe the warranty offered by Raymarine, like that of a lot of other major players, is actually gobal.

Raise a stink with head office. The company's taking the piss and, on my understanding, breaking the law.
