Didn't pay enough attention and bought Victron MTTP 75 15 Solar Controller without Bluetooth (non-Smart version).

It's useless. Need Lifep04 setting - no way to do this without splashing out for the Bluetooth dongle. So why even
bother selling non-Bluetooth? Surely there should be way to make simple settings directly on the unit.

Maybe it's set to Lifepo4 by default. Who knows - no mention of it in the manual. Tech Support is in Holland.

Guess there's a chance I've got the wrong end of the stick - maybe some kind soul can correct?

Bah!

The Blue Solar is aimed at systems that include other Victron products that can monitor the controller and change the settings. The Smart Solar works perfectly as a stand alone product. Without being able to customise the settings and monitor the controller it is useless, you need to either send it back and exchange it for a Smart Solar, or buy the dongle.

Paul

I've just bought a Victron Smart MPPT 100/20A Controller (with Bluetooth).

I want to get a VSR. What make/model should I buy (I have yet to read the thread)

Thanks in advance

Thanks all.

Realise it's a rabbit hole of my own making. Am up to speed on the Orion BTB unit being in Smart and non-Smart versions (on the shopping list) but somehow had a blind spot re Solar.

Looks like the USB dongle a bit cheaper, but would probably get old if settings need re-making. (Anyone know if the settings are remembered on de-power?)

Probably go with Bluetooth dongle, just for convenience.

On the temperature compensation, struggling to find out exactly what it's for. Guessing it's to do with throttling back the charging to avoid stressing the battery when it's at a vulnerable temperature. I've only got 90 Watts into 100 Ah Lifepo4 (planned) so allowing myself not to worry (at least for now).

Cheers

It adjusts the charge voltage as the battery temperature changes with ambient conditions.

I’ve never had to reset settings after power off on any victron stuff, you will hopefully find the dongle useful for looking at the history logs etc

Well done on the controller Clive (y)

I routinely fit Victron VSRs, never had an issue with one. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-Cyrix-ct-120A-230A-EN.pdf

Thanks Paul.(y)

I'm not to sure what Victron Cyrix I need. My battery banks are 24V.(y)

I'm not sure how they work at this stage. But just read
"Main reason to go larger would be if your going to be using it a lot for winching or a big inverter"

My inverter is 3000W/6000W so I assume I need 240A(?)

I'm not charging l ion batteries so I was thinking of going for a VSR costing $186.12 (see link)

Would appreciate your help.(y)
