First off thanks to Boatone for reccomending an engineer. He came today and really knows his onions.
It appears my Stbd Gearbox was at fault. Don't ask for details as its all double dutch to me. Now! Heres the rub. Phoned one very well known firm and was quoted £2424 VAT and delivery 6-8 weeks. Phoned another told £2200 VAT delivery within a day or two. Phoned good old faithful Lancing Marine, the gearbox will be with me Friday and the cost is £1740 VAT. Pays to shop around dunnit - eh!

Byron, make sure they send you the right ratio gearbox, should be 2.0 to 1,. by the way they would have been my first choice, I looked in their catalogue when I got home for you.

No the boats only a moments walk from the house but I'm here indoors wondering about a chicken and an egg. Did the Gearbox problem cause the vibration or has a slightly bent shaft caused the gearbox problem. (sigh) I guess I will have to wait until the new gearbox is in and I have the boat lifted to find out. She has to come out for antifouling etc. anyways.

In our previous phone conversation did you mention a prop refurb/ new one ? as it may be that the previous owner had this done prior to your purchase and the damage has come from that, as we used to have a HIstar 42 in Majorca now when we bought the boat it had just had a new prop, shaft and complete twin disc gearbox all due to it picking up a wire fishing net at nearly full speed and stopping the engine dead ,net result a box full on neutral gears, after all this we then bought the boat to find extra engine damage in the form of a broken timing gear and injection pump timing advance unit broken into tiny pieces !, this I think was caused by the sudden stop and wind up of inertia of the gears etc, just hope there is nothing in the engine damaged, did you do a full speed sea trial prior to purchase?.

One other thing, I was doing a search on P 435 and found one advertised as Ocean Eagle lying in spain on by Val Wyatt I think ? could this be your boat.

Strange! Val Wyatts did sell my previous boat an Ocean 37 called Ocean Eagle but I took the name with me when I got this P435 off them. She has lived most of her life in the S of France but I bought her here. BUT! You are the 2nd person to mention a P435/Ocean Eagle/Val Wyatt. Maybe Guy has got an advert mixed up somewhere.
