hi,i need to mount my vhf ariel on my pushpit for while till i can get up the mast to replace a broken one. I have mychart plotter arial also on the pushpit, can you see any problems here... ie, affecting the cp...i know about the reduced radio range? Thanks.e

I've never heard of a VHF interfering with GPS but if you are worried, you could put the aerial near the GPS aerial temporarily and transmit while watching the readout, just to reassure yourself.

Should'nt be a problem the only time i've seen VHF affect GPS was on the lifeboat if you transmit on 0 for too long it makes it go a bit wobbly sometimes. MF on the other hand that just sends everything/one mad!!!

Doubt you would notice a great difference on the range there are very few units out there that will transmit a genuine 25W.

Its not as if you're ever going to be forced to rely on a GPS reading taken at the exact instant you transmit is it? Non-issue.

Probably good practice generally to keep aerials that Tx as far away as is reasonably practical from those that Rx (like Navtex and GPS) but not much if any harm will be done if you don't. If you get unwanted interference in anything it will be pretty obvious what is causing it. Even so if it doesn't cause a problem what does it matter?
