I had a new Axiom 12+ fitted last December and I am very happy with it. But now I noticed the old Raymarine VHF no longer picks up gps.
The fitter came onboard this week to see what the issue was. He explained that the power to the control module needs to be off before switching on the nav. Wait for that to pick up satellites then power up the vhf. So I now have to fit a breaker between the power supply and module in the engine bay and in order to switch it on after turning battery switches and nav on.
Has anyone else had this issue after the Axiom being fitted?
I cant understand why the vhf couldn't use the old gps antenna and not the Axioms?

FYI. I am no technician so talk of backboans and Seatalk etc are lost on me.

I have the Raymarine e7 with the 260 e VHF
I know that's different to your set up but I have not found the issue you describe. However I do know Axiom is a different operating system and may not be compatible with older kit. For example an Axiom mfd cannot communicate with the e7 that I have. It seems intentional so as to encourage sales of new kit.

Raymarine have technical help so you could try that .

Its the Ray240E hand set with the box in engine bay.
I pulled the power wires and reconnected them which got the vhf to connect to gps.
l’m fitting a temp switch next to the box until I update the radio. Although it all works well and would be spending out for no gain really.

The 240 can get GPS via Seatalk or NMEA0183 though you would need a converter to get Seatalk from an Axiom. Older versions had lots of software issues that were patched in subsequent releases but you can't do a software upgrade from an Axiom unit. Where is the old GPS antenna? Depending on how professional your installer was he may just have cut the wires and left it doing nothing. There's no reason it couldn't be used for the 240 otherwise.
