So. With lockdown boredom increasing I decided to relax with a little retail therapy and treat myself to a new handheld dsc vhf. Now I can't access all of the features until I have entered the mmsi, so my question is, do I have to add it to the ships vhf licence? I have always had a separate licence for the handheld as I can migrate it between boats. Will it be allocated a new mmsi or will it be the same as the ships fixed set?

You need to apply for a new licence for the handheld, this will generate a different mmsi number
Yes, check the 'FAQ' as Bruce suggested too and if you are still confused call ofcom, they are normally very good at explaining and quite helpful

Thanks guys, dead simple, took about 2 minutes to add it to my profile and got a new mmsi in 30 seconds. Took longer to program it into vhf
