VHF playing up, transmissions are distorted with background noise. Need to find a radio/ electronic engineer to check the installation. Boat is in Gosport, can anyone recommend a good person in the area ?
Thanks.

I am due a trip up to Oban, but probably not next week sorry. I shall ask my friends who are working on a new maritime charity up that way if they can help though. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If transmissios are truly distorted and noisy as opposed to just weak, then I would suggest remove the radio and take to the radio shop. The fault is most likely in the radio. It saves them travel time and money and also saves you having to wait at the boat.
However if it is OK when very close then you probably have an antenna/ cable problem.
You should check that you have full 12volts at the radio when transmitting. good luck olewill

Thanks for your offer. I have found a Raymarine agent in Haslar and will take the radio there for them to check it.

Try to borrow a spare microphone. It you cannot. you may be able to buy a spare from somewhere that deals in CB radios. It will cost less than £10 and may solve the problem.

When I had a sililar problem in April, I was quoted £50 to look at the set, more than it is worth. A new mike solved the problem.
