I've just bought a second hand yacht and need to change the MMSI number on the DSC VHF. As far as I can tell this is a one time only entry and can't be altered. I have a NAVMAN 7100 radio. Tried looking on NAVMANS web site, but all they seem to have info or help for are GPS and in-car products. Can anybody give me some advice or a contact number for Navman.

Hi Steven
If the radio came with the yacht, why do you need to change the MMSI number, you can change the details of ownership on the OFCOM site.
It is possible to AMEND an already installed MMSI number on the Navman 7100,
The first 3 number are always the same for a UK number, the rest are the identifier
If the boat is SSR registered, changing the name and all the other bits will cost if that is why your are changing the MMSI number
Good luck

When I applied to Ofcom for a licence they gave me a MMSI number. The previous owner of the yacht (from Portugal) already had a different number. Do I have to get in touch with Ofcom and change the number they gave me to the number already on the yacht? This is still stevenawatt even though the login name has changed.

Yup, that would be the best thing to do. Though are you changing the flag of the yacht (from portuguese to British)?

If you are importing a Portugese yacht the previous MMSI would have been issued by the PG authorities so you do need to change it. Its usually a question of returning to the manufacturer which you might not find as cost effective as a new radio. I just bought and fitted a new Standard Horizon. Cheap as chips and awesome reception. Might be worth considering as I think the Navman is a fairly budget set anyway and not as easy to use.
