VHF Licence

I applied for a new licence when I took delivery of the boat in November. I have been issued with a MMSI although I do not yet have a dsc set !!!

I always though the MMSI went with the set but obviously I am wrong.

the mmsi applies to the vessel and can be programmed into several different bits of kit, e.g. epirb. when you buy a dsc radio you tell the suppliers your mmsi and they program it. (so you need to get the license before buying the set.)

I suppose that I got it all wrong then.

I bought the Radio then the license & programmed it myself.

Am I a technical whiz or what! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No, but to get a certificate of competence and an authority to operate you have to do an exam (which is often, but does not have to be, linked to a 1 day course).

Mike, great to see you are semi-gainfully employed, I'm sure the other 50% will follow shortly.

I truly was very saddened to hear that you were going.

BTW, even better to have you posting here again.

Re: French MMSI at Portsmouth

My French registered yacht with a French allocated MMSI number will be sailing out of Portsmouth this season. In the event of a distress issued in UK waters will a non UK MMSI number slow down the Coast Guard's response?

Re: French MMSI at Portsmouth

No as long as it's all fully documented with your "French" flag state and Coastguard.

I would suggest that as you are going to be sailing out of England that you should register with CG66 as well, just to give it "belt and braces".

Again you'll find the link to CG66 on-line application on the page in my sig.

Thanks TB, I'm actually on "gardening leave" at the mo and taking it easy (although now that the weather has turned I have a car, bike and boat all in need of work). This is due to the fact that my termination date is 31/03.

I still haven't made my mind up what I'm going to do yet but I am drawn to the Marine industry and may start touting myself about soon.

Re: VHF License

You may have to wait a very long time. It's only at the consultative stage at the moment. I only received an email this week saying my comments had been registered.
