Hi

I think my boat has a licence so I assume I need to get the owner details changed. Would I go to Ofcom?

I also need to get my user licence.
The radio seems a quite good fixed unit.

I could probably get a reasonable mayday out if I had to but I'd like to be sure. I'd also like to use it for comms with marinas etc. It is a big gap in my sailing knowledge currently .

I am going to talk to my club to find out what courses they might be putting on, but maybe an online course would be time effective? Any suggestions?

Yep, you do need a user certificate. The boat has the license. It's an interesting course and will leave you feeling a lot more up to speed.

You need to change the ship licence to your name with Ofcom. This independent of your operators licence. You can find details of the course and assessment on the RYA website. Many places to take the course, both from private providers and also from some clubs who organise an instructor to run the course for members.
