Hi, I have a COBRA MR F80EU. I am having problems with the channel selection using the knob on the unit. When one moves the channel on one its o.k., but when one tries to move on one again it reverts to the original. It works o.k. when using the microphone, using the up and down buttons. Has anybody had this problem and knows how to put it right.

Regards CID

I don't know the unit at all but normally these days that kind of knob is attached to a rotary encoder. As this is rotated it generates two pulse signals A and B, ninety degrees out of phase with each other, so that the unit can determine how far the knob has been turned and which direction. It sounds like one of the pulses is missing. Why that would be is anyone's guess, a damaged encoder, condensation, bad solder joint or hopefully just a connector that isn't seated right.

Sounds like one of the switches in the thingy behind the nob is intermittent so giving the wrong instructions to the processor . No doubt an enthusiastic ham could fix it but it may have to go back to Cobra unless any one here is breaking one....Mind you if you have any friends in Singapore then send them to Sim Lim Towers...can get anything there. Meanwhile just have to button punch like the rest of us :D:D

good news

Hi all again . The set in question was bought in March 2010, thus it was out of guarantee. I contacted the agent in Ireland and guess what ,within a few days a new set arrived by post. So I now have one new set. The old one works when using the mike ( they did not want it back). I am well pleased.
