I've got an emergency VHF antenna, liberated from my old boat - provided by the previous owner. It is an antenna, with a nice healthy length of co-ax on it - but with no connector on the end. Does anybody know what the connector is called which goes on the end so I can go get one ? Maplin sell something called a PL259 UHF connector which looks like the right thing.

Alex, sounds like the right plug provided it fits the radio in the new boat. You haven't changed your profile yet. Hope Liz is well, not long now?

Yes that's the one, PL259, sometimes called a UHF series connector.
Originally developed by the Amphenol Co in the USA.
Do a proper solder job on it though, the screw in variety arent that successful.
They come in different neck sizes to support different sizes of cable.
You want one for RG58 type cable.
Steve.

Still no name for the new boat! hence no profile change. Other thing is imminent - 8 weeks away! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
