I am fitting a vhf radio to the boat this winter and have purchased a Banten whip antenna. After fitting the cable to it earlier today, I thought I’d do a continuity check with the multimeter and was surprised to find continuity between the whip and the base with nothing connected to the other end. I removed the cable and checked the antenna itself and it still showed the same reading on the meter.

Took it back home for a closer look just in case there something stuck up inside but it all looks clear to me.

Have I misunderstood this?

Thanks

Chris

Probably fine.
There are often components a bit like a transformer connecting the socket to the actual aerial, so tests at DC are of very limited use.
