After 17 years I think it prudent to replace my masthead vhf aerial especially as my Sailor VHF radio has failed twice. I have purchased a Commrod aerial ( as used by RNLI) with a heavy duty cable to minimise power drop. However the cable is very heavy and I am worried that a single mast top clamp will damage the cable. How can I support the cable inside the mast (there is no dedicated trunking) without un stepping so that the weight of the cable is evenly distributed?

Stretch out a similar length of 4mm nylon rope - tie-wrap the cable to the rope at 200mm intervals - let the rope take the weight of the cable.

I would suggest wire - but not too sure how it would affect the signals.

Best regards )
