How much does a vetus waterlock cut exhaust noise on their own? The one I am looking at is the NLP60 due to serious space problems, engines are peugeot 1.9 diesels.
My engine is above waterline and currently has no silencing other than the raw water, I put a downturn to below waterline to cut noise which is fine inland but in a following sea it gets too much back pressure so I want to go back to just a flap on the outlet but cut the noise.
All comments appreciated.

Engine much smaller so maybe not a fair comparison but on one trip my Vetus plastic waterlock became holed and I had to bypass it. Did not notice a sigmificant increase in exhaust noise. For what it is worth I consider that you would be better off looking at the effect of a Vetus exhaust muffler.

Thanks for your input, the waterlock may be the key to giving me enough play to use a muffler in a gooseneck arrangement as well, a bit of a design cockup on my part.

I have a Vetus waterlock and gooseneck fitted on my boat, with very little noise from the exhaust.

It is a 6ltr engine and I was concerned that I hadn't fitted a silencer as well, with hindsight I am pleased that I didnt as it's not needed.
