The gas detector is indicating that it is has reached replacement time at a cost of £140.00
Does anyone know why it is age sensitive and is there any alternative to this cost

I think they are based on catalysts on delicate bits of metal which will corrode in a marine environment.
I would not trust one to work for very long.
Do you test it often?

Its the CO detection that the trouble. The sensors usually used for CO have a limited life.

The alternative maybe a flammable gas detector and a separate inexpensive CO detector

The time element of the unit can be reset and is meant to be after replacing the sensor so do we think that it refers to the CO application only and would resetting and fitting a stepperate CO unit be an option ?

Probably. Reset it and check that the flammable gas detection still works
