Hi,

Have a 30hp yanmar with an exhaust system comprising of a vetus watertrap and then rubber hose to a big loop then out the transom. This is a new engine in a new modern design.

I have a new muffler and gooseneck to fit but will they make that much difference to the sound out the skin fitting? It is already very quiet down stairs but sat at the wheel you can notably hear the exhaust when motoring hard. Previous boat was really quiet!

It's already got about 3m of flexible hose from engine to loop.

Any one wish to comment?

The gooseneck won't make any difference - it is only a neater way of getting the loop in. Muffler might and as you have it worth a try. Most systems using the Vetus water trap don't use a muffler as well.

I have a Vetus water trap and a muffler in the system before the loop forming the swan neck. The engine is noticeably quiet above decks, there is more mechanical and intake noise than exhaust note so it may well be worth trying.

Rob.
