If this gets past the discussion phase it could have serious implications for us.

To encourage use of recyclable environmentally sound material all boats will be subject to a tax depending on the environmental impact that the eventual disposal will cause.

The lowest band will be steel craft which are deemed to be 90%recyclable.

Wooden boats are considered 40%recyclable with limited environmental impact

GRP OCCUPY THE HIGHEST BANDS WITH ANY CONSTRUCTED WITH ANY FORM OF FOAM IN THE LAMINATE CONSIDERED VERY ENVIRONMENTALLY UNFRIENDLY these will have to be dismantled in a controlled environment by licensed contractors.

As its unfair to penalize the final owner only it is anticipated that an annual fee will be payable against all vessels depending on size and which band they are in.The funds will be used to set up marine dismantling/recycling centers.

Glad my boat is only small and doesnt have any foam in its construction.

Not possible until there is mandatory registration of ALL leisure boats and the issue of annual "tax discs"
Scare mongering or trolling by someone somewhere.

This would'nt be anything to do with 'radio checks', a thread set up to wind up an owner of a boat FULL of foam!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Please post a link to the relevant web site / page if one exists otherwise do tell who told you of this "rumour"

May well be a complete red herring this time round, but something is going to have to be done because there is an increasingly large number of old redundant grp boats. You see them dotted around all over the place. Allegedly, the French already have 3 or 4 national disposal centres for old grp boats.

Chap at our club took umbrage to the immigration dept's refusal to let his wife stay, and tried to dispose of his unsaleable boat before he left. In the end he took a circular saw to it and trailered the bits of hull down to the local dumpit where they charged him £20. Interestingly, the hull of the boat, a 26 footer, only weighed 500kg over the weighbridge. And it was a trad long keel allegedly heavy old boat. Engine left in the bushes, god only knows where the mast etc ended up.
