Very senior moment

Had a complete senior moment last autumn when winterising my Beneteau. I misread the instructions on the how to drain the calorifier and released the fluid inside the element by cutting the wirelocking and turning a valve. When only a small amount of blueish fluid came out I realised that there was another valve underneath which when depressed emptied the tank. I think that what I have done is empty the inside of element on the calorifier which is probably an antifreeze or cooling fluid.

How do I resolve this problem as cheaply as possible, or is it something I can risk ignoring? It is made by "Quick" of Italy, model BR23.

If you carorifier is heated from the engine cooling circuit (and I can't think of any other way of doing it), all you need to do is make sure that the engine cooling circuit is topped up with an appropriate anti-freeze/water mixture. Check the level in the header tank. If it hasn't gone down, it probably will when you start the engine and the pump circulates the fluid. Once you have your level, top up the header tank to the right level. Sounds like you only drained off an insignificant amount and a simple top up is all that is required - if that.

I had a Quick boiler on my Beneteau (I have since replaced it) and I don't think that you have done anything at all. If I remember correctly that sealed valve is a pressure releas valve and is sealed so that you can not re-set the opening pressure value.

The other valve is also for safety and can also be used for draining. If you want I can try and find the instruction book for the Quick if I still have them - let me know.

Alan.

Thanks, it is heated electrically and through the engine. Going off the post below it sounds like the small amount of fluid is the pressure amount mentioned and from the diagram it would appear to have come from the element. Will check the header tank though.

Thanks, have since found an instruction book on the web and also that they are distributed by XL - so might call them to see what they say. (Buy a new one probably!!)
