Chrisi is about 6 miles south of Ierapetra and yesterday (Sunday) we had a south-westerly near gale (gusting) here. There is a fetch of 200 miles or so from Libya to the south coast of Crete so the seas there must have been huge. What where they thinking?
A 45-year-old man is missing, feared dead, off the southern coast of Crete after a dinghy he was sailing in on Sunday capsized in stormy seas.
Three other men in the boat were rescued and taken to the hospital. One was in intensive care.
The four men were attempting to reach the small island of Chrysi, also known as Gaidouronisi, south of Ierapetra.
A major search operation was launched after their boat sank.
