Very Rare 1960\'s Auqua Loop...... Need help !!!

Hey All !! New guy from Ontario Canada here, and looking for any info. I can find on this rare (hidious looking) machine. Seen it locally on-line, and just couldn't stop clicking on the link. Not sure what it was, but I just had to have it, lol. I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning, and can't wait to get started on the restoration !!! Problem being, is that I can not locate any information on this rare gem. All the information I have right now, is that it's a 1960's Auqua Loop. By the looks of it, I'd say it's one of the first PWC's ever built, lol. Anyway.....Any help finding info. and literature on this sexy beast would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also a proud owner of a 1997 Regal Rush XR2 8)

Thanks, Cheesy!

Wasn't intended to be derogatory, Cheasy. I'm just surprised how long ago these things were made! If it is the first of its type I can easily see it justified as a Classic. My original post was about challenging narrow & predjudiced perceptions anyway!

There are people on here that might not accept slipper launches as Classics, even tho' they are made of wood, because they are motor powered! Others, however, can describe some GRP boats as classics. It all depends on your point of view.

Yep! what you say is true............

But mine is the only point of view that matters! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No Prob. Searush...... Never took it as a derogatory coment anyway's. Classis, or not.....She's a rare beast that turn alot of heads, and generates alot of comments, and questions. I consider it a diamond in the rough, and love it because it's unique, and has everyone asking....WTF??? LOL

Re: Very Rare 1960\'s Auqua Loop...... Need help !!!

"The classic jetski" has always been a bit of a joke with me... I have spoken in the past about a clinker-built jetski etc, as it seems the most modern sort of craft around. But here it is - a real classic! (Classic as in typical early example of a type that went on to conquer the world - for better or worse). It's absolutely hideous - and I love it. It's this ability to see a classic for what it is so soon after the event of its build which will mean there are more classics around in the future when everyone moans that people didn't preserve them at the time. History should be of course a record of events - not just pleasing highlights! That's why we mourn sad events and keep ugly, yet significant craft like yours, and why Donald Crowhurst's GRP - also ugly - trimaran should be rescued and preserved.

Didn't Victress belong to the other bloke, Tetley? Crowhurst's heap is (till it falls totally apart on Cayman Bac, and recent photos suggests it has) Teignmouth Electron. I can't see anyone preserving it as the whole episode was a tragedy.

BTW, wasn't it grp sheathed ply, or just plain glued ply? Leaked like a seive from the start, allegedly.

Re: Very Rare 1960\'s Auqua Loop...... Need help !!!

My apologies. From what I remember, yes, Donald Crowhurst's Victress-class trimaran was actually ply (albeit covered in loads of GRP), and in answer to the other comment, I'm pretty sure that Crohurst and Tetley both had the same trimarans. On a slightly related note... it makes me very annoyed that the film about the Golden Globe race (Deep Water) makes no mention of the fact the Nigel Tetley commited suicide most probably as a result of losing the race, which in turn was caused by pushing his boat too fast in the belief that Crowhurst was pushing up behind him. And a slight moderation: I don't think Teignmouth Electron should be restored, but I do think it should be kept somewhere to prevent wanton deterioration.
