Sat on boat last night and a nice bloke who has a Binliner 2655 further down the pontoon was backing a trailer down the slip.

Apparently his grandson had been doing a small speedboat up over winter and last night was his maiden voyage.
Inoring grandad's advice, he decided not to stay around the marina and set off for York instead. Got to York and discovered that he had forgotten to fill in 4 bolt holes in the transom which were to do with the old engine set up. This was discovered when he found his feet were getting wet.

One phone call to Grandad later and he set off back from York. I offered to be on standby to set out with grandad at short notice if he phoned that he was getting into difficulties.

Seemed to be taking ages to get from the point he said he was and I was just warming up the engine and getting ready to cast off when grandson limped into the marina.

Boat safely on trailer, water peeing out of the transom, grandson laughing and joking without a care in the world and grandad with a face like thunder. Bet he nearly had an heart attack waiting for the prodigal's return.

Good job the lad had his mate with him cos I think it likely that grandad might have keel hauled him if not.

The resilience of youth eh?

Thats the touble with getting age and experience, you just worry more because you know what could happen and tend to think disaster. The youngsters probably just saw it as something to deal with and "oh well, this is a laugh lets see what happens now" I bet most of us can remember being like that...
