I bought a small laptop to run a navigation programme (Tosh Portege 3110CT running W98) and a compact flash GPS which runs fine on my main lappy (Compaq Evo running XP Pro).
/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifProblem is I can't get the compact flash working through the PCMCIA slot. In Device Manager/properties i am being told there is a conflict with another bit of hardware for IRQ. The conflicting devices are both necessary.
Any way round this? The PCMCIA slot is the only available port for data input.

There are theoretically 15 Interrupt Requests (IRQs) on a PC, and that is always 3 less than you need....
If the laptop has two serial ports (RS232) and they are not used, then you could well pinch one of the IRQ's.
If you go into Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Ports
you will find that LPT1 and Com1 and Com 2 are usually displayed.
If you do not use com2, you can use IRQ3, and can set your PMCIA card to irq=3 manually. On some laptops com2 is not alway setup, and if the device manager only shows Com1, then you can safely pinch irq3
PM me is you need more help
